Stephen J. Toth, 84, South Abington Township, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, in VNA Hospice Unit, Community Medical Center. He was the husband of the former Dorothy Lavriha. He was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Scranton and was the son of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Streztnicky Toth. He lived in South Abington Township since 1963, having moved from Scranton. He was a 1943 graduate of Scranton Technical High School and honorably served his country in the Navy as a fireman, second class, during World War II. Before retiring, he was employed by Findley Adhesive in South Abington Township and Consolidated Molding in Scranton. He was also a member of Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green.
Surviving are three sons, Stephen Jr., and his wife, Kelly, Clarks Summit; David and his wife, Darla, and Gary and his wife, Chris, all of South Abington Township; a daughter, Mary Jo Yurkovic, and her husband, Michael, Dickson City; a sister, Clara Muro, and her husband, Anthony, Glenburn; eight grandchildren, Michael Jr., Todd, Ashley and Chad Yurkovic, Brandon and Connor Toth, Brian and Brandi Felkowski; three great-grandchildren, Julia, Stephen and Alivia Yurkovic; and nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Baranowsky; and a brother, Theodore Toth.
The funeral was to be Sept. 10 with Mass in Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by Monsignor John H. Louis. Interment will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly. Memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit 18411. Arrangements were made by the Jennings-Calvey Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., 111 Colburn Ave., Clarks Summit 18411.
