Clifford L. Holgate, Dalton, died Friday afternoon, Oct. 16, at the Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Rose Marie Chesek. The couple celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Born in Clarks Summit, Holgate was the son of the late Allen and Marion Johnson Holgate. Prior to retirement, he was a heavy equipment operator, as well as a self-employed farmer, which was his true passion. He was a member Providence of God Lithuanian National Catholic Church in Scranton.
Also surviving are sons, Mark and his wife, Deege, Tunkhannock, Clifford and his wife, Linda, Dalton, Daniel, Scranton, Patrick and his wife, Maryann, Nicholson, and Matthew and his wife, Diana, Dalton; daughters, Mary Holgate, Dalton, and Cheryl Matulevich and her husband, Gary, Hop Bottom; brothers, Harper, Scranton, Boyd, Dalton and Douglas, Clarks Summit; daughter-in-law, Chris Holgate, Justus; grandchildren, Steven, Amanda, Lisa Casey, Joe, Bobby, Becky, Christopher, Eric, Sarah, Jenny, Julie, Josh, Meadow, Raven, Zach, Levi, Daisy, Heather, Morgan, Lucreza, Matthew and Salvatore; and great grandchildren, Emily, Shane, Brandon, Katie and Mya.
He was preceded in death by a son, Greg; grandson, David; granddaughter, Melissa Holgate; brothers, Hayden, Williard and Keith; sisters, Frances Sutton, Irma Anderson and Delores Carpenter.
A Mass of Christian burial was to be held on Tuesday from the Providence of God Lithuanian National Catholic Church, Oak St., Scranton to be celebrated by the Rev. Walter Placek Ph. D., pastor. Interment will be in the parish cemetery on S. Abington Rd. Arrangements from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit.
