Christina Krut, a junior from Abington Heights High School, was looking for a senior project that would benefit the community and provide an opportunity to provide an event for marathon enthusiasts. A runner, Krut felt the event supported her interests while accomplishing her goals.
Krut dances at the Abington Heights Civic League Dance Academy, is a member of SADD, is active in the internet club and volunteers for Relay for Life, the OLS Youth Group and with Compassionate Care Hospice (CCH).
She will be working with Compassionate Care Hospice who is sponsoring the Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation (CCHF) Perky Turkey 5K Run/Walk. The event will take place, rain or shine, on Nov. 22 at Nay Aug Park in Scranton.
The event is to benefit the CCHF, which was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2004. Often with terminal patients, there is a hidden demoralizing financial impact felt by the loss of employment or the cost of care. Social workers find existing community resources but there are individuals ineligible for assistance through other resources. Anyone wishing to sponsor or participate as a runner may contact CCH by calling 570.346.2241, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
