According to the Abington Township Shade Tree Commission, it has developed a number of action items that are intended to further the natural beauty of the Township.
Earlier this year, the Commission reported that the inventory of the tree lawn section in the Historic District was completed by a certified arborist from the Pennsylvania Forestry Department. During this process, spaces were also identified as possible sites for planting new trees.
Residents are advised that if planning to plant a tree in a space in the tree lawn, the township has limited funds to assist in the purchase of new, balled trees. Subject to the limitation of the funds available, Abington Township will reimburse residents up to $300 per tree for the purchase of trees to be planted in the tree lawn. To be eligible for reimbursement, the new trees must meet the conditions specified in the Shade Tree Ordinance. Residents must apply for and receive a written authorization prior to purchasing a tree for which they will seek reimbursement.
