Forensic Team earns awards

Abington Heights High School students qualified to compete at the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament in Omaha, Neb. The top four competitors in each speech and debate event advance from the local NCFL qualifying tournament to the national tournament. Forensic Team members Cindy Bi, Devin Scanlon, Xiaofeng Jie, and Amelia Oon took all four spots in the Student Congress or mock congressional debate event. Xiaofeng Jie and Amelia Oon qualified to nationals in their first year of team competition. Ashley Novak took top local honors in Lincoln-Douglas debate and Oladayo Osuntokun qualified in Extemporaneous Speaking. Abington Heights High School hosted the NCFL national qualifier tournament. Cindy Bi and Devin Scanlon advanced as semi-finalists in Student Congress at the national tournament in Omaha. They rank among the top competitors in the country in this event.
