Members of the Abington Heights Athletic teams will be volunteering their time and canvassing the community for the Third Annual Community Food Drive Oct. 17 from 4 to 7 p.m.
All proceeds from the door-to-door collections will be donated to food pantries in Lackawanna County.
Groups of student/athletes will be going door to door throughout the Abingtons to collect food items such as soups, canned vegetables, cereals, peanut butter and other non-perishable food items.
The drive begins at 4 p.m. at Summit Baptist Bible Church, located next to Abington Heights High School, 232 Noble Rd., South Abington Township.
Teams will go out in groups of four or five.
When each team returns to the church at 7 p.m. their food will be weighed.
In an effort to add a little competitive spirit to the night, there will be a prize awarded to the team that collects the most food each night.
