Michele Ann Manzione, 61, of Binghamton, N.Y., died Sunday, Feb. 28, at Mountain Rest Nursing Home, Scranton.
Born Dec. 9, 1948, in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of Louise M. Farbizio Manzione, Clarks Summit and Peter J. Manzione Sr., who died in 1965. She had recently returned to the area to be near her family during her illness.
Michele was a 1967 graduate of Marywood Seminary and received her Bachelor of Science in social service from SUNY Binghamton. After high school, she joined and enthusiastically participated in the organization Up with People. A natural social worker, she dedicated her life to working as an advocate for individuals with mental and emotional disabilities. She tirelessly worked to defend their rights and extend the benefits available to them. She gave countless hours of her time to helping others. Her loving, kind and generous nature will remain a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew her.
Also surviving are her soul mate, Mr. Lynn Thomkins, Binghamton, N.Y.; a brother, Peter Manzione, Chapman Lake; a sister, Andrea Dorsey Kerzetski, and her husband, Joe, Clarks Summit; a nephew, Charles Dorsey, Ithaca, NY; five nieces, ; and three grandnephews .
The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family with services by Monsignor John H. Louis, pastor of the Church of St. Gregory, Clarks Green. Interment will be at Clarks Green Cemetery.
