State Police in Wyoming County are investigating a car collision that left one Nicholson resident dead Saturday, April 3.
Wyoming County Coroner Tom Kukuchka declared Nicholson resident Mark Jenkins, 49, dead at the scene after he was involved in the crash Saturday, on Route 11, north of Factoryville.
The crash took place when Brett Dixon, 26, was operating a 1995 Cadillac and traveling at a high rate of speed, headed south on route 11, according to state police reports. Dixon collided into Jenkins, who was operating a Suzuki SUV, according to state police.
Jenkins was traveling with two 15-year-old boys, also residents of Nicholson, who were taken Saturday by ambulance to Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Dixon was extracted from his vehicle by emergency personnel and flown to CMC.
As a result of the accident, a portion of Route 11 was closed for six hours Saturday, and again from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 5. Trooper Tracy Flynn, who was on the scene Tuesday, said the road was closed again to enable police to determine exactly what occurred. Further investigation is pending.
