The May Downtown-Go-Around is all about mothers, according to the organizers of the monthly art event held throughout the year in Clarks Summit on the second Friday of every month.

“It is important to show them how much they mean to us, as mostly, they have been selfless in caring for those around them,” said Mari Walker, Downtown-Go-Around committee member and owner of Duffy’s Coffee House .

In celebration of Mother’s Day on May 11, the community is invited to celebrate at the Downtown-Go-Around on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., with a variety mother-theme visual and performing arts events planned throughout the town .

“The events planned will be especially geared toward these women in our lives,” Walker said via email. “Everybody has a mother, or at least a mother figure.

“Mothers (women) have an integral role in shaping this world as we know it.”

Live music, art, handmade gifts, chair massages, and some of moms’ favorite foods provided by What the Fork will be available to honor mothers throughout the evening.

“There is no doubt the second Friday Downtown-go-Around is all about mothers, and there is no better place to take mom,” said The Gathering Place co-founder, Dori Waters, whose committee joined forces with the Abington Business & Professional Association’s Downtown-Go-Around (DGA) committee. “There are great shops, wonderful atmosphere, but it is the people that make the Abingtons what it is. … These events are a great way to see old friends and neighbors. If you can’t bring Mom along, it is an opportunity to find the perfect gift for her.”

Seating will be available at The Gathering Place on the first floor of the Clarks Summit Borough Building.

The line-up of visual and performing artists’ exhibits include: Deborah Hamby & Jennifer Hamby Brandon & Friends and music by Lori Prussia at Duffy’s; Sole to Soul, Diana Lombardi and Mariann Busti; Everything Natural oil paintings by Judith Rhue; Abington Art Studio with Laura and Lorelei Ancherani; Sonia’s Contemporary Clothing artist Katy Bills; Jaya Yoga Photography by Abby Healey; Cloe N Company Photography by Mary; Balance Chair Massages; and at The Gathering Place, Marylou Chibirka, Cheryl Korb and Brook Wandall, Music by Sassafras, Verve Vertu Art Studio Wearable Art, Aquilina Oddities, Jewelry & Lamps, Finish Shop Pocket Park Rock Painting, Chair Massages by So & SO, and ASP Adirondack Chairs.

Two months ago, during a Downtown-Go-Around event at Duffy’s Coffee House, artist Marylou Chibirka painted a portrait of her daughter, Christina Cox, set to music. This Friday, the Dalton resident returns to paint another portrait of her daughter as she plays the violin with Jessica Illuzzi on guitar.

“It was so energizing to me to paint to live music, and this month’s scheduled event will be so much more exciting, because it is my daughter who will be playing,” she said, “it is so much fun. I think one of the greatest thrills to me is painting to live music.”
