Commissioners A.J. Munchak, Robert C. Cordaro and Michael J. Washo on Tuesday in Scranton delivered a proclamation that Thursday, May 10, 2007 is hereby “The Abington Journal Day” in Lackawanna County. The Commissioners recognized the newspaper in celebration of 60 years in business and for its recent Keystone Press Awards for photography, page design and writing. Connor acquired The Abington Journal as part of its purchase of The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader. Also included with that sale were the Dallas Post and the Pittston Sunday Dispatch. The new company, which owns all of the newspapers, is The Wilkes-Barre Publishing Co., Inc.
