Last December, the Dietrich Theater’s Radio Players wowed us with an amazing live performance of two popular radio plays “My Favorite Wife” and Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Twenty-one community members participated in the production having fun playing a variety of roles.
The Radio Players will be back this spring for another live show. If you would like to learn all about the golden days of radio, please join us for this class. You will learn how to change your voice to play heroes and villains and young and old characters, see how sound effects are made and more. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, April 29 through June 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. Call the Dietrich at 570-996-1500 for more information or to register. The Dietrich will also be presenting a Photography for You class in the coming weeks. Kenny Ganz, official photographer of the Steamtown National Historic Site, will help students improve their photography skills. Participants will meet each week at the Dietrich and travel to various locations to photograph. The class will focus on composition as well as tips, tricks and techniques to help you become a better photographer. Classes will be offered on Mondays, May 5, 12, 19, June 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 31 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. New and returning students are welcome. Admission is $75. My husband and I took this class a few years ago with Kenny and enjoyed it. We took photographs at Riverside Park, in downtown Tunkhannock and other locations nearby. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in photography. Call the Dietrich to sign up.
In May the Dietrich also has a variety of events for children and adults to enjoy. On Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. we invite you to join us for a free movie event. See the family-friendly film “Happy Feet” on the big screen. Admission, popcorn and soda are free. This special event is in memory of “Jeeterbug” from the Kintner Family. What a wonderful gift to the community. Tickets can be reserved by calling the Dietrich or at the door while they last.
The Dietrich will be hosting a free classical guitar concert featuring Jay Steveskey playing the vibrant and colorful music of Cuba Then on Sunday, May 4 at 3 p.m. Included in the concert will be compositions by preeminent Cuban guitarist/composer Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Martin, Aldo Rodriguez Delgado and more. This program is sponsored by John Keker in memory of Jessie Reppy Keker and is also sponsored by Sarah Sidorek. We hope you can join us.
And just a reminder, please come out for Open Mic Night this Friday at 7 p.m. The featured artists of the evening will be the Keystone Poets in honor of National Poetry month. Storyteller Fiona Powell will have tales to share for all ages at the Dietrich on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. Admission is free to both of these events.
