The Abington Heights Special Education Department’s monthly special education parent informational sessions, Feb. 17, March 17, April 14 and May 12. in the Administration Building, second floor, 200 E. Cell phone collection. Abington Heights High School Students Against Destructive Decisions is collecting cell phones. The collected phones will be refurbished for use by the elderly. Wyoming County Reads program, presented by Tunkhannock Public Library and the Dietrich Theater. This year’s books are “Catch-22” by Joseph Heller and “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien. Program includes book discussions at the Tunkhannock Public Library and a showing of the movie “Catch-22” at the Dietrich Theater. The Lackawanna Historical Society’s Civil War Roundtable meetings, at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Catlin House, 232 Monroe Ave., Scranton. Feb. 10: War Governors; March 10: Elizabeth van Lew, a female spy for the Union; April 14: Citizens of Gettysburg. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the Civil War era, 1861-1865. The Chinchilla Hose Company’s annual pizza sale fundraising event, from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. beginning Friday, Feb. 20, continuing every Friday during lent. Star Wars Gathering, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at Abington Community Library. Students in grades 5-12 are invited to come watch the movies and share what they love about Star Wars. Light refreshments will be served.

Technology Scheduling Session, 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at Abington Community Library. Adults who need help in computer basics, Email, iPad/iPhone, Kindle/Nook, Facebook, Skype, Facetime or Microsoft Suites may stop by and schedule a one-on-one meeting session.

UNC’s 15th annual Mardi Gras celebration, 6 to 10 p.m. Feb. 6, at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, 700 Lackawanna Ave., Scranton. Benefits the agency’s Angel’s Attic, an emergency food and clothing bank. Features a show from local mentalist John Graham, as well as performances by the Indigo Moon Brass Band. Carnival atmosphere includes a New Orleans dinner, featuring jambalaya, gaming tables, fortune tellers, beads, masks and more. Pasta Dinner Benefit for the Pivovarnick family, 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Scott Township Hose Co., Station 36, 1027 Montdale Road. The family lost their home, belongings, pets, and 58-year-old Michael Pivovarnick (their father and husband). Sit down or take out will be available. Dinner includes a pasta dinner with meatballs, a roll, salad and dessert. Basket raffle drawings will also be available. Cost: $8.

Winterfest, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Lackawanna State Park. Stop by the Environmental Learning Center to pick up a map and schedule with locations. Tooth Fairy Day, 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Albright Memorial Children’s Library in Scranton. This National Children’s Dental Health Month event presented by the Scranton District Dental Society will include a magic show, a dental hygiene presentation, a visit from The Tooth Fairy, face painting, storytelling, gifts and more. Second Annual Pie For Breakfast at the Ice Festival, 8:30 to 11 a.m. Feb. 14 at the Clarks Green Assembly of God on the corner of Venard and South Abington roads. Abington Christian Academy, in conjunction with the Clarks Summit Festival of Ice, will feature a wide variety of sweet and savory homemade pies, including fruit, cream, nut, pizza, quiche and more.
