The Wyoming County Cultural Center at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock is planning a number of activities, exhibits and special programming on and around the weekend of Dec. 5-7, during which the Tunkhannock Business and Professional Association conducts Christmas in Our Hometown.
Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas will make a return on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6. Free screenings of the family-oriented Jim Henson film will be held at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. each day and are sponsored by Ace-Robbins, Inc.
Families are also invited to take part in a Holiday Workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.on Saturday, Dec. 6. Activities will include cookie decorating, holiday crafts, singing and creations by Silly Sally, the balloon lady. Ace-Robbins will cover the cost of participation in this all ages event.
Two films in the Dietrich’s Classic Movie Series will flank the special holiday weekend, which draws thousands of spirited people to the downtown area each year. “A Christmas Story,” the venerable tale of 9-year-old Ralphie’s quest for a Red Ryder BB rifle, will be shown at noon and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. “Holiday Inn,” the Irving Berlin classic featuring the musical mayhem of Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, will be shown at noon and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10. Tickets for each screening are priced at $5.
