Sanderson State Street Salon, a 12U team from the Abington Area Girls Softball League won the Valley Petunia League Classic Championship in Jessup on June 24. The team defeated Oaktree Photography from Scott Township, 9-7. Sanderson scored three runs in their last at bat to win the game.

The winning run was scored by Emily Phillips, who crossed the plate on a hit by Angel Jefferson. Other key contributors to the win were Clarke Kupinski, who made a run-saving defensive play in left field, Lucy Specht, who scored two runs and had three stolen bases, Clare Sykes, who drove in the game-tying run, Shaelyn Kobrynich, who had a three-run homer, and Caroline Kelly, who pitched two innings of shutout relief.

On the way to the championship, Sanderson also defeatedCPG (11-6), Ed Gallagher Auto (10-6) and Ingargiola (8-6). Sanderson strung together eight consecutive wins to finish the season with a 13-7 record.

“They showed tremendous grit during the tournament and put forth a fantastic team effort all year,” head coach Tom Specht said. “They improved greatly over the course the season and deserve the success that has come their way.”
