The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory will begin its summer program on Monday, July 7 at 8:30 p.m. and will continue each Monday and Wednesday night through Wednesday, July 30.

The astronomical programs will feature an illustrated lecture and weather-permitted observation through telescopes. The main objects planned for observation include the planets Mars, Saturn, and Uranus; the Moon; and various star clusters, double stars, nebulae, and galaxies.

Presentations scheduled for the summer sessions include: “The Sun, Our Nearest Star” by Professor Thomas Cupillari on July 7 and 9; “Asteroids in Outer Regions of the Solar System” by John Sabia on July 14 and 16; “Beyond the Solar System” by Joann Kamichitis on July 21 and 23; and “Experiences at McDonald Observatory: A Professional Observing Run” by Professor Douglas O’Neal, Ph.D., on July 28 and 30.

Open to the public and free of charge, the sessions at the observatory will be held regardless of sky conditions and cancelled only by the threat of severe weather. For more information on the summer series contact Professor Cupillari at 945-8402.
