Toyota of Scranton will host the 2nd annual Toyota of Scranton Challenge Pep Rally Dinner, where the three finalists for a 2014 Toyota Corolla LE will be announced.

In association with the Coaches vs. Cancer program, the Toyota of Scranton Challenge uses specific criteria like GPA, involvement in the Coaches vs. Cancer program, community service activities on a voluntary basis, as well as other extracurricular activities or organizations to honor high school seniors in the Scranton/Wilkes Barre area. The nominees all demonstrate charitable characteristics on a continual basis, volunteering their time and their talents to their communities, schools, churches, and other charitable organizations. A personal experience with cancer is not required, but is common.

Principals at 42 area high schools were mailed application packets and given the opportunity to nominate extraordinary members of the Class of 2014 at their school. The nominees are invited to attend the Pep Rally Dinner at the Toyota of Scranton dealership, as well as their parents, the nominating principals, athletic directors, and coaches.

In addition to the Grand Prize winner, the other two finalists will be awarded a $1,000 college scholarship.

The Toyota of Scranton Challenge Pep Rally Dinner will take place Thursday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at 3400 North Main St. in Scranton.

In 2013 alone, over 1.6 million people were diagnosed with some form of cancer. The families of those affected, the communities where these people reside, and our nation as a whole feel the effect of this devastating disease. Each year, that number continues to grow.

The Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, gives basketball coaches and ordinary citizens alike an opportunity to help the cause. This program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of basketball coaches in the community to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness and efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
