Two men have thrown their hats into the ring and are vying for a chance to run in the Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District election. That district encompasses portions of multiple counties across the state’s northern tier including Lackawanna. Clarks Summit and much of the Abingtons are part of the district.
Adam Rodriguez of Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County and Scott Brion of Liberty, Tioga County, have each officially announced their intention to run in the Democratic primary on May 20.
The winner will square off against Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, R-Lycoming Township, Lycoming County. Marino has held office since 2011. The General Election will be held Nov. 4.
According to Politics PA, Rodriguez currently works as graphic designer in the clothing industry. He was is a former United Brotherhood of Carpenters member and considers himself a “FDR New Deal Democrat.”
“The revenue generated from a relatively minuscule tax on qualified financial transactions would go a long way in shoring up Social Security and Medicare while protecting our most vulnerable citizens who are dependent on programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, LIHEAP and emergency extended unemployment benefits,” Rodriguez told Politics PA.
Brion is a Wharton School of Business and University of Pennsylvania graduate. According to his website, Brion has held positions at multi-million dollar companies around the globe. In 2008, he founded Tioga Resources, a company investing in oil and gas assets in the Marcellus Shale region.
“Rural Pennsylvania has a long history of hard work and entrepreneurial spirit,” Brion said on his website. “I’m running for Congress because Pennsylvanians deserve a leader who will use those qualities to bring people together and achieve results benefiting the 10th District.”
