May was yet another very busy month for Troop 160 as they participated in two Eagle Scout projects, went on outdoor trips, and had an exciting troop meeting. All of these events will be remembered as some of the best.
The first Eagle Scout project the troop participated in was led by Logan LaClair at his blood drive for Geisinger. The scouts helped to greet and direct donors, as well as distribute food and water to those who had donated. It was a very organized project and was a great deed to those in need of transfusion. In total, they received 27 units of blood. That’s enough blood to save 81 lives.
The second Eagle Scout project the troop took part in was led by Matthew Parry. He’s constructing a sign in the Newton Ransom area. He’s very proud of his work and feels it’s good to give back to his community since most Eagle projects in Troop 160 are in Clarks Summit.
At the Lehigh Gorge, Jonathan Ross led a biking trip through the full rail trail. The scouts participating enjoyed all 25 miles of scenic railroads and the history behind them. The scouts stopped at each waterfall on the northern end of the trail to enjoy the cool breezes. Overall, the trip was a success and Ross plans to organize similar trips in the future.
The Spring Camporee took place this month and the scouts from Troop 160 did their best to solve mysteries, create shelters, and even get creative in finding scavenger hunt items. This event was council wide, meaning all troops in the Northeastern Pennsylvania council were welcomed to come.
Cooking can be a very fun patrol activity, so the troop organized meal plans, bought their ingredients, and cooked their meals on a troop meeting. As a result, the scouts had the opportunity to both get experience on the cooking field, and enjoy the accomplishment of eating a self-cooked meal.
Last, but certainly not least, the Troop 160 Eagle Court of Honor was held this month and we congratulated the accomplishments of this year’s new Eagle Scouts: Trevor Rasmussen, Andrew Gibson, Matthew Domenico, and Matthew Parry.
May is usually the busiest month of the year for Troop 160 because everything that was put off needs to be crammed in at the end of the year. Once again, on behalf of Troop 160, we would like to congratulate the new Eagle Scouts.
