Lackawanna County Commissioners Jim Wansacz, Corey D. O’Brien and Patrick M. O’Malley announced that grants for arts and cultural projects and programs in all municipalities are available until the end of December.
The $500 grants can be used for arts, music, volunteer firemen activities, concerts or community-based projects. Local artists are encouraged to speak to their respective municipal leaders about potential projects that need to be done in their communities.
Municipalities can collaborate on a venture and pool their resources to complete a large-scale project that will cover a wider area and serve more citizens. Under this arrangement, one municipality must serve as the lead agency to accept the funding. A letter, signed by the other municipalities, must be submitted confirming the joint arrangement.
The application letter must contain the following information:
• The people who will benefit from the project
• The other individuals or groups that will work with the municipality (if any)
• A project description
• A timeline
• The municipality/community where it will take place
• Project management and administration
• How will the project be promoted
• The impact of the event/project on the community
The letter must also include a contact person’s name, title, telephone number and email address. Application letters should be submitted at least 30 days before the start of the project. All activities or programs must be completed by Dec. 31.
Grant funds cannot be used to cover fund raising events, religious activities, art therapy projects, equipment or food purchases.
