The Lackawanna Trail School District Board of Education held its reorganization meeting on Dec. 1 in which board member David Thorne was voted in as board president.

It started with nominations for a temporary president. Board member Ned Clarke was nominated for temporary president. The board voted to approve Clarke as temporary president.

“I like to thank everyone,” said Clarke. “It’s an honor and pleasure to sit as the president for a few moments.”

Then, the board continued with nominations for president. School director Joseph Strauch nominated Clarke to be president.

“I’m honored to be recognized as to be the president, but at this time, I have to decline,” said Clarke.

Therefore, nominations were made for both president Mark Lombardi and Thorne. Clarke asked the board members to vote for either candidate. Four board members voted for Lombardi and five members voted for Thorne. Thorne takes over for Lombardi, who served as president last year.

Then, the board continued with nominations for vice president. The board voted to elect Clarke as vice president.

In other business, the board voted to approve the establishment of date and times of the regular scheduled meetings for the 2015 calendar year.

Also, the board voted to elect Clarke to the position of Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA) representative.
