With the victory of the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Championship, the era of the superstar has ended. With Michael Phelps’ accomplishments in the 2008 Olympics, the greatest accomplishment in sports history has erased any further search for Friedrich Nietzchle’s Superman. In political, religious, and business arenas, the Superman syndrome has meant big money, Nazi-like conventions and huge manipulation. Regardless of the hype, Michael Jordan was a champion. He didn’t hold press conferences and make ridiculous predictions. He didn’t cheat with drugs and ruin the dignity of the game. He just went to work and performed at a level unseen before. Maybe that’s the real Superman after all, the working man.
