The Scranton Tennis Club held its annual Senior Tennis Tournament this past weekend. John Weiss captured two titles, taking the Men’s A Singles title and pairing with Joe McManamon for the Men’s A Doubles title. Marion Reese was the Women’s A Singles champion, and Diane Bailey and Angie Kluss were crowned the Women’s A Doubles champions.

In the Men’s A Singles final, Weiss defeated Paul Pugliese 6-2, 6-4. To reach the final, Weiss eliminated Bill Sender 6-2, 6-1, while Pugliese outlasted Howard Conrad 6-1, 6-7, (10-2). In the doubles final Weiss and McManamon overcame a stiff challenge from Joe Bailey and Howard Conrad, winning 6-2, 6-4. In semifinal action, Weiss and McManamon defeated Paul DeLuca and Tim Aikman 7-5, 6-2, while Bailey and Conrad came alive in the third-set tiebreaker to defeat James Linder and Bailey Dilts 6-2, 4-6, (10-4).

Ms. Reese held on to defeat Diane Bailey in the Women’s A Singles final 6-1, 6-4. Bailey reversed the tables in the doubles final, where she and Angie Kluss defeated Reese and Kathleen McKenna 6-0, 6-1. To reach the singles final, Reese got past Connie Weiss 6-1, 6-2, while Bailey had a thrilling match with Kathleen McKenna, in which she took the third-set tiebreaker 14-12 to secure a 4-6, 6-3, (14-12) victory. In the doubles semifinals, McKenna and Reese overcame a spirited challenge from Denise Marcos and Joan Davis, 6-3, 6-0, while Bailey and Kluss bested Connie Weiss and Ann Conrad 6-3, 6-2.
