The following are recent Lackawanna County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: “any inspection is a ‘snapshot’ of the day and time of the inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term cleanliness of an establishment. Also, at the time of the inspection violations are recorded but are often corrected on site prior to the inspector leaving the establishment.” The information is taken from the inspection database at www.eatsafepa.com. Postal addresses used here are as listed on the state’s website, and may not correspond to the municipalities in which facilities are physically located.

Karp’s Grill, 51 Dennis Rd., Scott Township, Oct. 11. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Most available results are from April 2016. The person in charge stated that that samples were taken last month and that they were scheduled to be switched over to public water last week. The door located in the back area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Observed approximately 5-10 old rodent droppings on the floor in the corner near the garbage can. The droppings were removed and the area was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.

Kennedy Elementary School, Prospect Ave & Saginaw St., Scranton. Oct. 11. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Nativity Miguel School of Scranton, 1 Knox Rd., Scranton, Oct. 11. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Scranton High School, 63 Munchak Way, Scranton, Oct. 11. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violation: Customer self-service single-use tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched by customers.

Dixon’s Hoagie Hut, 715-2 N. State St., South Abington Township, Oct. 11. Opening inspection; in compliance.

Elmhurst Country Club, 319 Gardner Rd., Moscow. Oct. 11. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Observed consumer self-service display of lettuce, tomatoes and onions without sneeze guards or other effective protection on the buffet table. The thermometer is broken in the sandwich bain marie at the end of the cook line. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available in the white upright freezer, adjacent to the Beverage Air two-door refrigerator. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing glassware washer, at the Sand Trap Bar, was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. The bartender called the repair service. Glasses will be manually sanitized at the three bay sink at the bar until the glassware washer is repaired. Dishwasher test strips to monitor final rinse temperature are not available.

Foliage Chinese Restaurant, 43-45 7th Ave., Carbondale, Oct. 11. Follow-up inspection; in compliance.

Dunkin’ Donuts, 1325 S. Main Ave., Taylor, Oct. 12. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Bulk food ingredient storage container for sugar, in the prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. The container was labeled during this inspection. Food dispensing utensil in bulk sugar container observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food. The utensil was removed during this inspection. The hand-wash sink in the prep area was blocked by the ice bucket and towels and not accessible at all times for employee use. The ice bucket and towels were moved during this inspection.

Turkey Hill #167, 925 Main St., Dickson City, Oct. 12. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Manager to fax a copy of new certificate to PDA regional office . Broken rubber door gasket observed on the retail cooling unit.

Ad Bakery LLC, 235 Scranton Carbondale Hwy. Scranton, Oct. 13. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Food facility has an original certificate posted, but the location is not conspicuous for public viewing.

Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County, 3201 Rockwell Ave., Scranton, Oct. 13. Regular inspection; in compliance.

Cousins Convenient Mart, 202 Betty St., Archbald, Oct. 13. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violation: Interior surface of chest freezer equipment is repaired with duct tape. Duct tape is not an easily cleaned surface.

King’s Wok Chinese Restaurant, 1437 Main St., Peckville, Oct. 13. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: Employee personal items were observed in dry storage area, and not stored in dressing rooms or identified storage area as required. Spray lubricant (WD-40) was stored on the same shelf with food and single service articles in the back storage area. Observed shopping bags being used for food storage are not an approved food contact storage container. Beef observed thawing in standing water in plastic storage container, which is not an approved thawing method. Hood has an accumulation of grease and in need of cleaning. Duct tape repair observed on chest freezer handle. Duct tape is not an easily cleaned surface Wrapping utensil handles that is not in disrepair with tape. Non-food contact surfaces of fan guards not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and dust. Food residue observed in the hand-wash sink, indicating uses other than hand washing. Observed leaking condensate pan in the walk-in cooler unit.

McDonnell’s Restaurant, 7 S. Main St., Carbondale, Oct. 13. Follow-up inspection; in compliance. Violations: Gauges on the mechanical ware wash machine were not operational at the time of inspection. Facility has temperature sensitive strips to monitor the temperature of the final rinse. Observed an accumulation of grease on the sides of the fryer and along the wall by grill area
