SCRANTON — Kevin Shaughnessy, 47, was appointed as the new director of buildings and grounds by Lackawanna County Commissioners Jim Wansacz, Patrick M. O’Malley and Edward G. Staback. His salary is $52,000 per year.
In his position, Shaughnessy will be responsible for directing the overall operation of maintaining the county’s grounds, managing a staff of 20, handling budgeting and overseeing the general repairs, upgrades, painting, and upkeep of the county’s 14 properties.
Shaughnessy is a graduate of West Scranton High School. He received a four-year certificate in commercial and residential electricity from the Lackawanna County Area Vocational Educational School and a Certificate of Journeyman Wireman from the National Electrical Contractors Association.
Shaughnessy possesses 27 years of electrical experience in the industrial, commercial and residential areas. Through his affiliation with the Local 81 Electricians Union, he has worked on some of the largest constructions projects in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
He has been involved in building projects at The University of Scranton, Marywood University, Wilkes Barre/Scranton International Airport, Tobyhanna Army Depot, Procter & Gamble and Geisinger CMC. He also worked on the World Trade Center 911 Disaster at the Verizon Building.
He has participated in a variety of continuing education training programs offered by AT&T, IBEW and national electrical associations. He is also involved in several electrical legislative and safety committees and activities.
Shaughnessy lives in Scranton with his daughter, Peyton.
