CLARKS SUMMIT — Each summer, hundreds of children from Northeastern Pennsylvania gather for Big Blue Sports Camps at Summit University.

Big Blue Sports Camps are designed to improve children’s athletic skills and grow their personal character. These camps focus on skill development, an enthusiastic approach to the sport and applicable life lessons.

Big Blue Soccer

The university will host Big Blue Soccer Camp for children in second through eighth grade from Aug. 10 through 14. Campers should register by Aug. 3 at bbcdefenders.com. For more information, call 570-585-9322 or email sportscamps@SummitU.edu.

Big Blue Basketball

The Big Blue Basketball Camp was held on campus June 29 through July 2 for children in grades K5 through eighth. The young athletes had the opportunity to learn under the father-daughter duo, Roger and Amber Jacobs.

Coach Roger Jacobs has a wealth of coaching experience at Summit University. He led the men’s collegiate soccer program for 17 seasons. He was also the assistant coach of the Defender basketball team. “Coach J,” as he’s affectionately known, was the Big Blue Sports Camp director from 1990-2006 and has been a guest coach since 2010.

Former WNBA player Amber Jacobs brings her experience and basketball intelligence to the summer camp. Jacobs first experienced Summit University summer camps as a camper. She grew up attending the Big Blue Sports Camps directed by her father. She played for the Abington Heights Comets and was a four-year starter and award winner at Boston College. She went on to play in the WNBA for five years. She also served as assistant coach at the University of Toledo and the University of Rhode Island. Currently, Jacobs is the assistant director of athletics and head coach of the Lady Defender basketball squad at Summit University.
