Waverly United Methodist Church plans annual Labor Day Bull Roast


The Waverly United Methodist Church’s 46th Annual Labor Day Bull Roast will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7 at the church, 105 Church St., Waverly. The first Labor Day Bull Roast was started by the church’s Men’s Group in 1969. Now an effort of the entire church, it is a tradition expected and supported by the community. The fire will be started around 5:30 a.m. and when all is said and done, 400 pounds of charcoal will be used to cook 600 pounds of beef. 800 ears of corn will be shucked and cooked, 200 pounds of potatoes will be used and 100 pies, cakes, and brownies will be served. 10 percent of the proceeds will fund missions projects. Tickets are $14 for adults and $6 for children under 10. For tickets or more information, contact Holly Gilpin at 570-561-3371.
