CLARKS SUMMIT — A historic new chapter is set to begin at Our Lady of the Snows and The Church of St. Benedict Parish. Msgr. Joseph G. Quinn, J.D., J.C.L., will be installed as the new pastor by the Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera, D.D., Bishop of Scranton.

The celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at The Church of St. Benedict on Newton-Ransom Blvd. with a New Beginnings Mass for the 104-year-old parish.

Quinn will succeed Msgr. James J. McGarry, who served as Pastor of Our Lady of the Snows and St. Benedict for the last 20 years and is currently its Pastor Emeritus.

Since July 2009, Quinn served as the Vice President for University Mission and Ministry at Fordham University, the Jesuit University of New York, where his primary role was to advance the mission of the university and help sustain its Catholic and Jesuit identity.

Ordained to the priesthood by Bishop James C. Timlin, D.D. in 1985, he served as the rector of St. Peter’s Cathedral, the mother church of the Diocese of Scranton from 1989-2005 and then as pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale from 2005-2009.

Prior to entering the seminary to commence his studies for the priesthood, Quinn had a distinguished legal career in Northeastern Pennsylvania and, for six years, served as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The Parish Pastoral Council at Our Lady of the Snows selected the first weekend of Advent for this important milestone celebration in its parish history to coincide with the start of a new liturgical year.
