SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. — After 18 years of doing business in a “temporary” trailer, the Chinchilla Post Office opened at its new permanant location at 555 Northern Blvd., next door to McCarthy Flowers.

According to Karen Mazurkiewicz, USPS district communications programs specialist, the operating hours remain the same as they were at the previous spot, but people will now be able to pick up their mail at any time.

“The post office box customers will now have 24 hours a day, seven days a week access to their post office boxes,” she said. “In a nutshell, that is probably the biggest change. The same people will be there. This site was prepared to be a post office, where the trailer was kind of intermittent. …So, this is the real deal.”

Another benefit of the new location is the amount of space the staff now has to work with. According to Mazurkiewicz, the new post office is about 1,600 sqare feet, while the trailer in which it was previously housed was 576 square feet.
