FACTORYVILLE — Students at the Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center recently honored local veterans with an escort of uniformed Brownies and Scouts to a musical selection played by a group of talented elementary musicians. This was followed by a freedom poem, recited by kindergarten students. Veterans were treated to selections by the fifth and sixth-grade chorus, along with a song by Brownie Troop 50047.
Guest speaker was veteran Arthur Haus, who shared with the audience bits of history on the importance of Veterans Day. A PowerPoint presentation, which included photos of the attending veterans, photos of staff family members who have served or are serving in the military and an album of freedoms experienced by staff and their families, was shared.
The highlight of the program for all was the student reaction to the song, “I am Proud to be an American.” During this song, all students who have a veteran in their family waved a photo of that family member to the music, along with patriotic hearts they designed to give to the attending veterans.
