DUNMORE — On Monday, March 21, a private contractor for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will begin a $9,982,000 project to replace the decks on 11 bridges on Interstate 81 North and South between Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) and Exit 202 (Fleetville – Tompinksville). In order to expedite the project, all northbound work will be conducted simultaneously throughout 2016. All southbound work will be conducted simultaneously in 2017. Traffic will be in a single lane pattern at Exit 194 (Clarks Summit) and then at each bridge location, but will not be a continual single lane pattern throughout the entire length of the project. The locations of the bridges to be replaced are as follows:

2016 – Northbound:

I-81 over Edella Road (just north of the Clarks Summit exit)

Bridge at Exit 199 (Scott)

Bridge at Exit 201 (East Benton)

Two bridges at Exit 202 (Fleetville – Tompkinsville)

2017 – Southbound:

Two bridges at Exit 202 (Fleetville – Tompkinsville)

Bridge at Exit 201 (East Benton)

Bridge on the Exit 201 (East Benton) southbound on ramp (SR 438 to I-81 South)

Bridge at Exit 199 (Scott)

I-81 over Edella Road (just north of the Clarks Summit exit)

In addition to the replacement of the bridge decks, there will be paving of the shoulders, the approaches and on SR 107 under I-81. A temporary lane closure will be in place starting Monday for preliminary survey work. The permanent single lane patterns will be in place by mid-April.
