SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. — Children were gathered at the starting line, eager to fill their baskets with the numerous pieces of candy, plastic Easter eggs and small prizes scattered around the large recreational field at South Abington Park, when they heard the siren of an approaching fire truck. The red engine pulled into the park and little eyes turned to its big, white and fluffy passenger: Peter Cottontail! Waving, the Easter bunny jumped down and greeted the youngsters, making his way onto the grass to signal the start of the Easter egg hunt sponsored by the South Abington Lions Club and Chinchilla Hose Company on Saturday, March 26. The field was soon picked clean of the treats placed there for the free annual event. After the kids filled their baskets, bags and buckets, they gathered with their parents in front of the fire truck, listening for their ticket numbers to be called to win more prizes.

And they’re off! Children take to a running start at the South Abington Lions Club and Chinchilla Hose Company’s Easter Egg Hunt in the recreational field at South Abington Park.
