Fourth Annual Furry Friends 5K Run/Walk to benefit Griffin Pond Animal Shelter

SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. — Griffin Pond Animal Shelter will hold its Fourth Annual Furry Friends 5K Run/Walk fundraiser on Saturday, April 23 at the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, starting and ending at the Elm Street Head – Scranton Trail Section. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk will start at 10 a.m.

The management and staff at Griffin Pond Animal Shelter are grateful for the support of Justin Sandy, Scranton Running Company and John Kirby, Kirby’s Race Timing for sharing their extensive knowledge, helping shape this year’s event.

Bronze event sponsors include Nearme Yoga, Mick’s Auto Exchange, G’s Market Café, Lackawanna Printing and Jim Lamberti Contracting Services. Corky’s Garden Path is the gold sponsor, supporting the race in memory of Arlene Binner.

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter does not receive federal, state or county government funding and relies on event fundraising and donations.

Registration for the event is $20 and participants may register online until April 18 at runsignup.com/furryfriends or on-site the morning of the event. The first 100 registrations will receive a complimentary four-foot light up LED leash. Griffin Pond t-shirts will be available for $10. Raffle tickets will also be available at $1 each or eight for $5 for a chance to win one of two $50 gift cards donated by the National Running Center.
