1966 — Summer camp was the place to be, for local youngsters. The Journal’s front page displayed a photograph of group of Abington area boys paddling a large war canoe on the lake at Camp Spruks, a YMCA camp in Poyntelle.

1976 — The big news of the week was the Democratic National convention at Madison Square Garden.

A front page photograph showed Clarks Green resident Hubert Gordon, who was appointed an alternate delegate by Gov. Carter and received voting privileges earlier that month. Also attending as delegates from the Abington area were Al Belinski, Joe Gibbons, Atty. James Munley and Ed Mitchell, who was also at the time a Democratic candidate for Congress, and appointed to an alternate delegate position by Gov. Carter.

1986 — Area dog owners were preparing to compete in the 57th Annual All-Breed Dog Show and Obedience Trials of the Lackawanna Kennel Club, a member of the American Kennel Club.

“Highlights of the day’s judging will be the awarding of a silver-plated Sheridan bowl to the best-in-show dog, and a silver-plated pearlized tray to the highest scoring dog in the obedience trials,” read the Journal brief. “The show offers entertainment when up to 119 different breeds compete and really try to please their handlers.”

The club president at the time was Charles Morgan and the show chairperson was James Hughes.
