‘Roasting the bull or throwing it?’ was the headline that accompanied this front page photograph in 1986, advertising the Waverly United Methodist Church Men’s Club’s annual Labor Day Bull Roast. 1971 — That year’s all season title in the Abington Softball League was won by the Cha-Sam Builders for the fifth time in six seasons. The Builders were undefeated in the season, winning 21 games in league play. They then went on to compete in the post season playoffs with the four top teams in the league.

1976 — Entered by the Hughes cottage, a float titled “Boston Tea Party” came away with the Best of Parade award at a boat regatta at Lake Winola.

1986 — Members of the Waverly United Methodist Church Men’s Club were planning their annual Labor Day Bull Roast on the church grounds. Arja Powell was honorary chairperson and David Delevan was president of the club.
