CLARKS SUMMIT — For tasters seeking a dish with a bit of a kick to it, this year’s Taste of the Abingtons will include jambalaya, prepared in the kitchen of Sunrise Cafe, with hot sausage, chicken and shrimp.

“I was in the mood to do something different from the soups this year,” said Dawn Williams, owner of the small-town diner on Depot Street.

This is her fourth time participating in the Rotary Club of the Abingtons’ annual fundraiser.

“I’m looking forward to it just as much as the first year,” she said, adding she enjoys seeing all the people come together at the event to make each other feel welcome and support the cause.

The event is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Ramada on Northern Boulevard in South Abington Township. It features dozens of local businesses under one roof, with restaurants and eateries offering samples of various dishes. A separate area is reserved for wine sampling and cigar smoking. The afternoon will also include music and entertainment, raffles, a wine pull and silent auctions with smartphone bidding.

Tickets are $35 and can be reserved online at tasteoftheabingtons.com. Proceeds benefit Rotary International’s End Polio Now campaign, as well as the local club’s charitable programs.
