Marywood University’s music, theatre, and dance department presents: ‘Octuba Brass Jam,’ 2 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts, Room 104. Notable Writers of Northeastern PA, 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Dietrich Theater. NEPA is notable historically for a number of writers from the area who attracted national attention. For example, Pottsville native John O’Hara became one of the 20th century’s most popular novelists, while Wilkes-Barre-bred Herman Mankiewicz co-authored the script for “Citizen Kane,” one of Hollywood’s greatest films. In this presentation, Dr. Sheldon Spear will share stories of these writers as well as others. Cost: free.
