SCRANTON — Zoe Haggerty, of South Abington Township, is one of 10 presidential scholars in The University of Scranton’s class of 2020. The Presidential Scholarship is a merit-based, full tuition scholarship awarded to students of exemplary academic standing who have demonstrated leadership and community service. The scholarships are offered to a limited number of qualified students on a competitive basis.

Haggerty, a biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology and philosophy double major, is a graduate of Holy Cross High School. A National Merit Commended Scholar, she was the valedictorian of her high school class and a Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit (of PA) Scholar of the Year. Haggerty was the president and member of her school’s National Honor Society, a competitor in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, and ran both cross country and track and field.

Heavily involved in community service, she was a board member on the Pastoral Council of the Church of Saint Gregory and Marley’s Mission Gala Planning Committee. Haggerty is a member of the university’s Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honor Program. She is the daughter of Rebecca and Daniel Haggerty.
