National Running Center’s first ever Strawberry Day Run to benefit The Gathering Place

CLARKS SUMMIT — The National Running Center is launching a new community event in the borough that emphasizes family fun and healthy lifestyles. All proceeds will benefit The Gathering Place, the area’s future community, arts, and education center.

The inaugural Strawberry Day 5K Run, 1 Mile Walk, and Kid’s Fun Run will be held Saturday, June 20. All three events will start at The National Running Center on Davis Street and continue through Clarks Summit. The 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the Kid’s Fun Run starting at approximately 9:30 a.m., immediately after the conclusion of the 5K Run.

In keeping with the Strawberry Day theme, the top male and female participants will win a homemade strawberry pie from Breads A Plenty, and the top three participants in each age group will each receive a pint of strawberries from Pallman Farms. Every finisher in the Kid’s Fun Run will be awarded a medal. The first 100 participants will receive a free shirt, and all participants will receive a goodie bag.

Adding to the Strawberry Day theme will be kids’ games and treats. After the races, The Gathering Place committee will offer for sale strawberry shortcake, homemade baked goods, jams and jellies and other strawberry dishes. Strawberry lemonade and strawberry-infused water will be served.

Games for kids of all ages will include strawberry toss, Oreo cookie stacking, chalk art and more.

The Strawberry Day event helps kick off the community fundraising campaign for the renovation of The Gathering Place’s new home in the old Clarks Summit firehouse. All proceeds will go toward the renovation project that will transform the first floor of the firehouse into a vibrant venue that will serve the Abington Area Community Classroom, local artists and community groups.

Registration for the June 20 event will begin at 7 a.m. at The National Running Center, 318 Davis St., Clarks Summit. The fee for the 5K is $20, the fee for the 1 Mile Walk is $10, and the Kid’s Fun Run is free. All participants must register, and forms are available at The National Running Center or at
