TUNKHANNOCK — The Dietrich Theater Radio Players have delighted audiences for a dozen years by bringing golden days of radio plays to life. This year’s Christmas show, scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the theater, is no exception.

Esther Harmatz, Dietrich Radio Players Director, assembled 15 volunteer actors and chose four comic Christmas episodes from old-time radio shows to make the free show the best yet.

This show will be dedicated to Barbara J. Jones, one of the original radio players, who lost her battle with diabetes this last fall. Audience members will remember her as the Story Lady, Irma of My Friend Irma, and Gracie Allen.

Featured plays include a 1953 Christmas episode from Our Miss Brooks called “Black Negligee,” a funny story of re-gifting. An episode from The Great Gildersleeve from 1948 challenges one actor to make the sounds of a baby in “A Baby’s First Christmas.” A 1942 Fred Allen episode called “Santa Claus Sits Down” and a 1949 episode of Radio City Playhouse called “Twas the Night Before Christmas” promise to bring laughter from the audience.

Free tickets are available at the theater’s ticket booth and and can be reserved by calling 570-996-1500.
