S. ABINGTON TWP. — Matthew Christian McDonnell, now 6 years old, has been battling stage IV Wilms’ Tumor (kidney cancer) since age 3. Over the past three years, he received a lot of kindness from other people. Now he is seeking to pay a little of that kindness forward with an event, Matthew’s Miraculous Hot Cocoa Stand, which he planned himself.

Set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at the South Abington Park under the covered pavilion, the cocoa stand will serve as a fundraiser for pediatric cancer research. Proceeds will be sent to Alex’s Lemonade Stand and another pediatric cancer research program.

In October, Matthew was invited to sponsor the Alex’s Lemonade Stand through the NET credit union. It was a dream come true, as wanted to hold his own lemonade stand this past summer, but relapsed again for the fourth time. He was proud to be part of something he knew was helping other children who battle cancer.

Matthew McDonnell, of South Abington Township, a 6-year-old kidney cancer patient, will host a hot cocoa stand fundraiser for pediatric cancer research from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at South Abington Park.
