1965 — J. Lawrence Friedman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Friedman, of Clarks Green, was approved for the rank of Eagle Scout. He was affiliated with Troop 166, of the Clarks Green Methodist Church.

“He started his scouting career in 1961, becoming a Star Scout in 1963 and obtaining his Life badge in May of 1964,” read the Journal article. “Besides his 23 merit badges, Larry possesses two special scouting awards, the Ner Tamid, the religious award and the aquatic award – Scout Life-guard.”

1969 — The Abington Heights foreign student exchange committee auctioned off a snowmobile, worth $850, to benefit the students who were to study abroad the next year. A television set and a Polaroid camera were other prizes in the same benefit. The students of the foreign exchange club sold raffle tickets for the items.

1973 — Mark Murray and Dave Vogelbacker were the new co-captains of the Abington Heights swimming team. Both were record-breaking performers on Coach Art Wilson’s team.

“Murray holds school records in the 100, 200 and 400-yd. freestyle events while Vogelbacker is the standard holder in the 100-yd. backstroke, 200-yd. individual medley and is a member of record-setting medley relay and freestyle relay teams,” read the caption under a photo of the pair in the Abington Journal.

Larry Friedman was approved for the rank of Eagle Scout in 1965.
