This Week In Local History: Rockets, awards and a musical in news of the past

1967 — Pack 265, Montdale, held its annual rocket derby at Presty’s Hall.

“This is (an) annual get together where cubs race hand-built rockets, but where the parents get in on the fun act too,” read a caption under a front page photo in the Journal that week.

Winners included Nicholas Buranych, first place; Charles Boyarsky, second place, and Thomas Burnes, third place.

Stephen Swika Jr. was Cubmaster at the time.

1977 — Four local Boy Scouts were presented with their Eagle awards during a Court of Honor held by Troop 158 at the First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit. The Eagle Scouts were Mark C. Maria, Timothy P. Callaghan, Robert Reese and Christopher W. Grote.

1987 — The Abington Heights High School music department presented the Broadway musical “Fiddler on the Roof” in the North Campus Auditorium.
