1967 — A tractor-trailer jack-knifed in the mud and tipped over at the traffic light in Factoryville, spilling its load of tea bag cartons all over trail.

“The cab and van split apart, both overturned, and the driver was stuck with his head out the window and the cab sinking lower into the mud for an hour before help arrived,” read the Journal article.

It took more than 12 hours to clean up the wreck.

1977 — The St. Patrick’s Day parade in Scranton was the place to be, and the Journal ran a photograph showing some Abington residents participating in the festivities.

“Abington Assembly 128, Clarks Summit, show a touch of blarney at the recent St. Paddy’s Day Parade in Scranton,” read the photo caption. “The local girls were only one of many to march in the annual event.”

1987 — Members of the Abington Area Age Group Swim Team were honored at a dinner at Genetti Manor in Dickson City.

The girls team, at the time, was coached by Patti Osterhout and the boys team by Tom Burke. About 90 area children competed for the teams.
