1967 — The annual minstrel at Lackawanna Trail High School was full of singing, dancing and laughter.

“This year’s show, planned and written by Stan Caughey, was ‘Down Yonder on Vacation,’” read the Journal article.

“The highlight of the show was an impromptu bit of contemporary dancing by Gil Bunnell and Elaine Wohlkittle. When Elaine put her hand on her back in a gesture of agony, the audience roared with laughter.

“Members of the cast come from all over the Abingtons and the relaxed atmosphere of the musical always means fun and puns.

“Marilyn De Noia, Liz Towers, Red Staff and Bud Zang were the four tourists who set up the situations for the show. Bud Zang was a real swinger when her appeared in shorts. Those legs? The girls were overcome.

“John Hones, who was a member of the Minstrels for 17 years, sang his last song at Saturday night’s performance. He died Sunday in his sleep. John’s singing of Carolina Moon – one of his favorites – drew one of the largest hands of the evening.

“He held many offices over the years and directed some of the past performances.”

1977 — Two Clarks Green children, Sheila and Richard Conaboy, were caught on camera by a Journal photographer as they enjoyed the spring weather at the Lackawanna State Park playground.

1987 — The sports headlines for the week read, “Lions baseball team remains undefeated,” “Comet boys’ tennis team continues ‘fault’less streak” and “Lady Lions and Lady Comets softball teams post losses.”

“It was a slight understatement when Lackawanna Trail baseball coach Paul Fearick said he has a ‘pretty good team this year.’ An understatement because the Lions are still undefeated and lead the NAC West with a 7-0 league record.,” read the first article.

The second told of how the Abington Heights boys’ tennis team added two more victories to its perfect record.

The third article detailed the defeats suffered by the Abington Heights and Lackawanna Trail softball teams, which were dealt by Scranton Tech and Susquehanna, respectively.
