CLARKS SUMMIT — Jeff and Marie Gallagher, 95 and 92 respectively, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a breakfast party Wednesday, April 19 at the Sunrise Cafe.

The Clarks Green couple was married at 6 a.m. April 19, 1947 at the Immaculate Conception Church on Luzerne Avenue in West Pittston. Although his job only afforded Jeff one day off for the honeymoon, the couple made the most of it, taking an overnight trip to New York City to see the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra with Frank Sinatra.

Marie is a West Pittston native and Jeff is an Ohio-born Scranton boy, whose family moved to the Hill Section when he was 6 years old. The couple relocated to Clarks Green in the late 80s or early 90s.

They have five children.

When asked the secret to staying together for so long, Jeff replied simply, “Loving each other.”
