CLARKS GREEN — The borough council discussed at its regular meeting April 19 two requests made by Mary O’Brian, the municipal tax collector. The first was to designate a deputy tax collector and the second for her to be certified to provide tax certifications on behalf of the borough.

The board voted to advertise for a vote to adopt a new Tax Certification Ordinance at the May meeting.

In other business, the council discussed an issue raised by the Shade Tree Commission regarding a tree on Clark Street a resident alleges is diseased and dying. The question of who is financially responsible for its removal was reviewed. Further research will be made to determine the right-of-way on that section of the road.

Mayor William Thorburn also reported the borough received a letter from the Arbor Day Foundation stating it was selected as a Tree City USA for 2016. He thanked the Shade Tree Committee for “doing a fine job.”

The council voted to hire a new DPW laborer.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 17 at the borough building on North Abington Road, with a work session on Wednesday, May 3 at the same time and place.
