William Fritz, right, presents the 2017 Mildred Myers Award for Best African Violet to Laura Mead, Laurel Garden Club member, accepting on behalf of the residents of the Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The award is presented each April by Karen and Bill Fritz in memory of Karen’s aunt Mildred Myers, a charter member of the Laurel Garden Club whose prowess in growing African violets was notable.
