1977 — The front page of the Abington Journal was full of the smiles of young athletes.

“Anticipating a good time for everyone, a parade was launched by the Abington Little League last Saturday to celebrate the opening day of baseball season,” read a photo caption. “The parade, which traveled from the South Campus of Abington Heights High School to the Little League park in Clarks Summit, was led by a VFW color guard and Harry West in the WARM flagship.

1987 — A large color photo of a group of happy Waverly Elementary students filled half of the Journal’s front page.

“The Waverly Elementary School held its annual Ice Cream Social May 14,” read the caption. “The social also included an exhibit of the artistic creations of the school students.”

1997 — Four students from Lackawanna Trail High School were in the District Band program at Valley View High School: Jennifer Leonard, Eli Hludzik, Matt Elliott and Charlie Evans.
