LA PLUME — A late comeback bid by Keystone College fell just short on Tuesday, Sept. 29 as Elmira College escaped with a 2-1 victory in a non-conference field hockey match. The Soaring Eagles improved to 3-6 on the season while the Giants slipped to 2-5.

Lackawanna Trail graduate Shelby Croasdale scored Keystone’s only goal, her third of the season, with 7:03 left in the second half from the top of the circle after taking a feed from Allison Berman on a penalty corner.

Alli Gilbert scored for Elmira with 1:45 remaining in the first half, picking up a loose ball in the circle and firing a shot from eight yards past Keystone goalie Amy Denmon.

Elmira doubled its lead with 19:01 remaining in regulation when Megan Brain tapped a shot into an empty net from close range.

The Giants pushed for the tying goal over the final seven minutes, as Keystone outshot Elmira 11-3 in the second half, but were unable to force overtime.

Denmon made six saves for Keystone while Adrienne Mellot added three defensive saves in the game.

Keystone returns to the field at noon on Saturday, Oct. 3 with a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest at Neumann University.
