SCRANTON — Lackawanna College will add men’s soccer to its roster of programs for student athletes beginning with the fall 2016 semester.

“We feel the popularity of men’s soccer in this area and around the nation has grown tremendously,” Lackawanna College Athletic Director Kim Mecca said in a news release. “We’re excited to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in a sport that’s so widely enjoyed and appreciated.”

The college currently offers male students the chance to compete in baseball, basketball, football and golf. Women’s soccer has been offered since 2006, according to Mecca.

Future Falcons will compete in NJCAA Region XIX Division I play against colleges including Essex County College, Mercer County Community College, Harcum College, Manor College and Rowan College at Burlington County. Scholarships will be available for men’s soccer participants at Lackawanna.
